Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a skilled healthcare worker who uses specialized equipment and high frequency sound waves to produce images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. This exciting area of healthcare is rising in popularity due to advancements in computer-enhanced technology and miniaturization.
The CSN Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program houses two Associate of Applied Science Degrees: General/Vascular Ultrasound and Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound. The goal of the program is to prepare students for entry-level employment as general sonographers in a variety of settings from hospital and clinics to diagnostic imaging centers and outpatient health facilities.
Our program is the only one in Nevada accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Because of our CAAHEP status, students are eligible to sit for the examination for certification as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) prior to graduation.
