What is Land Surveying and Geomatics at CSN?

It’s the how we measure the three-dimensional aspects of the earth's surface, both above and below ground. This includes the measurement of distances, angles, and elevations to support projects in construction, civil engineering, environmental conservation, mining, and boundary mapping.

Why Choose CSN's Program?

CSN is the only college in Southern Nevada offering a BAS degree in Land Surveying and Geomatics. Students in this program learn the fundamentals of:

  • Computer-aided drafting (CAD) tools, spreadsheets, and other digital analytical tools;
  • Advanced mathematical concepts, including analytical geometry, vector algebra, least-squares adjustment, and statistics;
  • Conventional and robotic surveying techniques;
  • Global Positioning Systems (GPS) equipment;
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) usage; and
  • Legal applications related to the practice.

Why a BAS Degree?

Graduates with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Land Surveying and Geomatics meet the educational requirements mandated by Nevada statute for licensure and qualify for the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam and Principals and Practice of Surveying (PS) exam according to the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. This allows graduates to sit for the Fundamentals of Surveying examination, which qualifies students to become land surveyor interns and to sit for the state-specific examination for licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Nevada.
