The NSHE Nevada Regents’ Awards recognizes faculty, staff, and students who have demonstrated significant accomplishments in academic advising, teaching, creative activities, and student academic leadership.
To be eligible for consideration for a Regents' award, faculty and staff nominees must be full-time employees and have at least (5) five years of cumulative service within NSHE as of the date of nomination.
Nominees for the Sam Lieberman Award for Student Scholarship must be enrolled at CSN with no fewer than (9) nine undergraduate credits and have completed no fewer than (30) credits at CSN by the time the award is granted in March.
All nominees selected by the IRC and approved by the CSN President are recommendations only and are forwarded to the Nevada Board of Regents for final consideration. The Board of Regents retains final authority and will vote on award recipients during their March Board meeting. As such, selection by CSN does not guarantee final selection.
Selected award recipients in each category will receive a monetary award of $5,000.

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION:
- All Regents' Awards, excluding the Sam Lieberman Award for Student Scholarship, must be submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
- Nominations for the Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship must be submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, November 8, 2026.
REGENTS' AWARD CATEGORIES
The Nevada Regents’ Academic Advisor Award is given annually to NSHE faculty and staff members with distinguished records of student advisement. One award will be granted to a full-time community college member of the faculty, professional staff, or classified staff who provide undergraduate academic advisement as part of their primary assignment.
Although this award is intended for an individual, a group who by their collaboration have made outstanding contributions in academic advisement may be recognized as well.
NSHE institutions may submit one nomination only for consideration in this category.
Candidates must have at least five (5) years of cumulative service in NSHE.
Award amount is $5,000.00.
Each nomination must contain the following information only:
Formal letter of nomination from an NSHE employee or student, that adheres to the following guidelines and clearly addresses and details the following:
- Describe how the candidate achieved a significant record of excellence, going above and beyond, in student advising that is worthy of recognition by the Board of Regents
- Provide clear evidence and outcomes for the following areas::
- Ability to communicate effectively with students
- Effective advising practices, including strategies, methods, and any materials and tools developed by the nominee to support student success
- The candidate’s advising philosophy and what sets them apart from other advisors
- Committee work and/or other service to CSN and/or NSHE as it relates to academic advising
- Nomination letters must include the author’s full name, their contact information, and how they know the nominee
The nomination packet must include the following supplemental material:
- No more than (3) three examples of materials and/or tools that the nominee developed and implemented in their advising practices, or data, metrics, or feedback that show success as an advisor
- No more than (3) three formal letters of support from individuals knowledgeable of the nominee’s qualifications and that provide specific details or examples of their accomplishments and quality of work rather than just generalized comments and praise. Letters must include writer’s full name, their contact information, and how they know the nominee
- Advising Philosophy Statement that clearly answers the following questions:
- Why are you an academic advisor, what are your goals and intentions?
- What advising approaches, theories, and core values guide your advising practice?
- What impact do you aim to have on students and their success?
- What sets you apart from other academic advisors?
- How does your work support CSN’s mission and goals?
- How do you measure your effectiveness, impact, or how you have made a difference?
Biography – A one-half page biography written in third person on CSN letterhead. The biography should include professional background as well as scholarly and advising accomplishments.
NSHE Regents' Academic Advisor Nomination Form
All nominations will be scored utilizing the following Rubric Regents' Academic Advisor Award.
The Nevada Regents’ Award for Creative Activities is given annually to one full-time NSHE faculty member with a distinguished record in creative activity from a community college.
Although this award is intended for individuals, groups who by their collaboration have made major advances may be recognized as well.
NSHE institutions may submit one nomination only for consideration in this category.
Candidates must have at least five (5) years of cumulative service in NSHE.
Award amount is $5,000.00.
Each nomination must contain the following information only:
Formal letter of nomination from an NSHE employee or student, that adheres to the following guidelines and clearly addresses and details the following:
- Must indicate the significance, volume, and quality of the candidate’s creative activity in such a way as to clarify the nominee’s activities for individuals from other
- Must provide clear evidence of the national and/or international stature of the candidate’s creative This evidence should reflect recognized evaluation in the form of critically reviewed presentations, books, and other forms of recognition (e.g., invited presentations, juried exhibitions, awards, honors). A fuller listing of these should be provided in the nominee’s curriculum vitae, which must be attached to the letter of nomination.
- Must address the candidate’s continuous record of long-term creative
- Nomination letters must include the author’s full name, their contact information, and how they know the nominee

The nomination packet must include the following supplemental material:
- No more than (3) three examples of a scholarly, creative product (e.g., music CD, art slides, videotape, audiotape, work of fiction or non-fiction, piece of artwork, etc.). Works cannot be items that were co-authored or in collaboration unless co-author/collaborator is included in the nomination.
- No more than (3) three reviews, adjudications, or testimonials conferred by individuals who audited the original works. Reviews, adjudications, and testimonials must clearly refer to the examples provided.
- No more than (3) three formal letters of support from individuals who are knowledgeable of the nominee’s qualifications and that which provide specific details or examples of creative works rather than just generalized comments and Letters of support must provide the letter’s author’s name, contact information, and how they know the nominee.
- Names, addresses, and phone numbers of (5) five individuals outside of the NSHE whom the Selection Committee may contact about the candidate’s creative achievements. References cannot have been previously employed by NSHE, cannot be the nominee’s PhD advisor or advisee, and cannot be a family member.
NSHE Regents' Creative Activities Nomination Form
All nominations will be scored utilizing the following Rubric Regents' Creative Activities Award.
The Nevada Regents’ Teaching Award is given annually to faculty members with distinguished records of teaching. Two awards shall be granted to full-time faculty at an NSHE community college:
— (1) one full-time faculty who is tenured or tenure track, who provide instruction as their primary assignment and
— (1) one full-time faculty who is not tenured or tenure track (market hire), who provide instruction as their primary assignment
Although these awards are intended for individuals, groups who by their collaboration have made outstanding instructional contributions may be recognized as well.
NSHE institutions may submit one nomination only for of each tenure status for consideration.
Nominees must have at least five (5) years of cumulative service in NSHE.
Award amount is $5,000.00 each.
Each nomination must contain the following information only:
Formal letter of nomination from an NSHE employee or student, that adheres to the following guidelines and clearly addresses and details the following:
- The nomination letter must address how the candidate accomplished a significant record of excellence in teaching that brought recognition to CSN.
- The letter must provide clear evidence of the candidate’s ability to communicate effectively with students, impart knowledge, and/or develop skills in a manner that excites students’ interest in the subject matter as well as students’ interest in furthering their educational aspirations.
- The letter must provide clear evidence of the candidate’s enthusiasm for assessing, revising, and updating instructional methods, materials and technologies; a willingness to attempt and revise innovative instructional activities through varied approaches, methods, materials, or technologies in an effort to create ongoing participatory/active learning in the classroom and move the state of instruction in their field to a new level or in new directions; and a recurring effort to create learning tasks (assignments, exercises, and/or exams) that encourage critical thinking/reasoning skills.
- The letter must provide clear evidence of the candidate’s eagerness to be accessible to all students and to provide students with accurate advisement and appropriate referrals to other campus departments or NSHE institutions.

- No more than (3) three recent self-evaluations and/or evaluations by the candidate’s supervisor or dean.
- A summary of student teaching evaluations for no more than (3) three
- No more than (3) three examples (reprints or copies) of significant works that the candidate feels are representative of their teaching accomplishments. Examples include, but are not limited to, course outlines/syllabi, samples of course handouts, exercises the candidate has developed, distance education materials, video/audio created by the candidate, and samples of exams.
- No more than (3) three letters of support from individuals knowledgeable of the nominee’s excellence in teaching and their impact on student learning. Letters of support must provide the letter’s author’s name, contact information, and how they know the nominee.
- Names and contact information of up to (5) five individuals, including students, whom the Selection Committee may contact regarding the candidate’s effectiveness, achievements, or abilities as a teacher.
NSHE Regents' Teaching Nomination Form
All nominations will be scored utilizing the following Rubric for Regents' Teaching Award.
The Nevada Regents’ Scholar Award is given annually to one undergraduate student from CSN. In recognition of Sam Lieberman’s service and dedication to higher education in Nevada, the award shall be referred to as the "Sam Lieberman Regents' Award for Student Scholarship".
The award is based upon distinguished academic accomplishments, leadership ability, and service contributions while being a registered CSN student, as well as the recipient’s potential for continued success.
Award amount is $5,000.00.
Eligibility
Nominees must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in no fewer than (9) nine undergraduate credits or (6) six graduate credits in the semester in which they are nominated.
- Have completed no fewer than (30) credit hours at the community college level by the time the award is granted (typically in March).
- Demonstrate leadership and service accomplishments that occurred while a registered NSHE student.
Each nomination must contain the following information only:
Formal Letter of Nomination
The nomination letter must be submitted by an academic faculty member, administrative faculty member, or classified staff member that adheres to the following guidelines and clearly addresses and details the following:
- Evidence of the nominee’s record of academic excellence while a registered CSN student
- Evidence of how the nominee went above and beyond to expand and enhance their educational experience
- Academic accomplishments, honors, awards, acknowledgments, scholarly activities, research, potential for continued success, and other forms of academic recognition.
- Evidence of remarkable and distinctive leadership qualities and service contributions, including but not limited to:
- Mentoring or tutoring fellow students
- Participation in projects with faculty outside of classroom requirements
- Assisting with college fairs, parades, outreach activities, recruitment efforts, campus tours, and CSN events
- Participation in student competitions, showcases, leadership programs, clubs, or organizations
- Holding leadership roles within student organizations or community groups

Student Scholarship Resume
The resume must highlight the nominee’s achievements in the following areas:
Academic Achievement
- National, international, state, regional, professional and/or community awards or recognition
- President’s or Dean’s List, Outstanding Student Award, Honor Society membership, Women of Influence recognition, scholarship awards, competitions, and other academic distinctions.
CSN Leadership
- Leadership positions or significant participation in CSN organizations, clubs, projects, committees, or conferences. Examples include but are not limited to Chair, Co-Chair, President, Vice President, Senator, Secretary, lead of a CSN organization, club, project, or participant or attendee of a state, city, regional, national conference related to CSN.
Non-CSN Leadership
- Leadership positions or significant participation in organizations, clubs, projects, committees, or conferences outside of CSN. Examples include but are not limited to Chair, Co-Chair, Presidents, Vice President, Senator, Secretary, project lead, or conference participant.
Work and volunteer Experience
- Full-time and part-time employment, internships, volunteer service, and community involvement completed while a registered NSHE student and taking courses.
CSN Transcript
The nominee’s most current CSN transcript must be included. An unofficial transcript is acceptable.
Personal Statement
The personal statement should provide insight into the nominee’s aspirations, motivations, and perspectives regarding their academic, leadership, and service experiences.
Statement should address the following questions:
1. How does the student assess their experience at CSN, both academically and personally?
2. How has the student’s experience at CSN prepared them to achieve their future goals?
