CSN CTE OVERVIEW

The College of Southern Nevada CTE programs show the relationships between academic subjects like english, history, science, and math to technical fields that provide students with opportunities for not simply jobs but careers. The quality education provided to students in these CTE programs fosters student learning to incorporate the "soft skills" such as critical thinking, communication, team work and collaboration that employers are looking for in potential employees. Students are adequately equipped with relevant skills for career opportunities and/or advancements in personally rewarding occupations.

WHAT IS CTE EDUCATION?

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION.—The term ‘career and technical education’ means organized educational activities that — (A) offer a sequence of courses that— (i) provides individuals with coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in current or emerging professions; (ii) provides technical skill proficiency, an industry-recognized credential, a certificate, or an associate degree; and (iii) may include prerequisite courses (other than a remedial course) that meet the requirements of this subparagraph; and (B) include competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of an industry, including entrepreneurship, of an individual.

CTE FACULTY

CTE Programs are taught by CSN faculty who are dedicated professionals with industry related experience in their perspective fields of study. They provide students with hands on learning opportunities coupled with the innovative curriculum presented in a class room setting that enhances the overall quality and rigor of the students education here at CSN. Our faculty will expose students to the use of training tools that align with the type of equipment and technology being used by today’s industries, preparing them for rewarding careers.
