Distinguished Employee Awards

The President’s Distinguished Employee of the Year Awards honor CSN faculty and staff members who exemplify distinguished excellence and achievement in the categories listed below:

Award Overview: Each spring semester the Internal Recognition Committee (IRC) recommends up to four (4) Distinguished Award recipients; one (1) from each categories listed above. Winners are announced at Fall Convocation, and each recipient receives a $2,500 cash award.

Firm Deadline: Friday, April 19, 2026 at 11:59pm

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have been employed at CSN for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years by the Fall Convocation of the nomination year.
  • Any employee previously nominated may be re-nominated provided the employee has not been chosen as a recipient of the same award within the last three (3) years.
  • Previous winners cannot be nominated for the same category for three years, after which only material not previously submitted will be considered.
  • For committee consideration, the nomination material must be answered in completion and typed.
  • Professional Employees with a Compensation Grade higher than level D (Executive Director, Dean, AVP, SRAVP, and President), are not eligible to be nominated for the President's Distinguished Awards.

Selection Process:

  • The Internal Recognition Committee (IRC) will review and score all nominations based on the criteria outlined in the award category’s score sheet which are available on the IRC webpage.
  • Awards may not be given in any Distinguished category with fewer than three (3) nominees without the approval of the CSN President.
  • The IRC submits their recommendations to the President and Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
     

To Nominate:

The nominations may be submitted collaboratively with a nominee or through self-nomination; both methods will be evaluated equally.

The nomination packet must include the following:

  1. Completed nomination form that details the accomplishments of the candidate as they relate to the award category. Responses must be typed.
  2. A 500-word personal statement.
  3. Two (2) formal letters of recommendation (preferably typed).
  • Self-nominees: Your nomination form must have yours and your supervisor’s signature.
  • Collaborative nominations: Form must include the nominator’s info, the nominee’s signature, and the nominee’s supervisor’s signature.

To ensure that the evaluation process is fair and consistent, please consider how the information will be interpreted by the IRC based on the criteria on the corresponding score sheet. Provide detailed examples and avoid general comments. Only materials submitted in the nomination packet will be considered. The committee may, at its discretion, assign low or no scores for activities that are considered part of the nominees’ regular job duties. Please remember to adhere to FERPA laws and not include any student identifiers in your submission.

Award Categories (nomination forms and score sheets):

Distinguished Administrative Faculty of the Year Award

This award recognizes a CSN administrative faculty member who has demonstrated distinguished achievements in the areas of student success, leadership, professionalism, and service to CSN.

Distinguished Classified Employee of the Year Award

This award recognizes a CSN classified employee who has demonstrated distinguished service to the CSN community. The qualified candidate must show significant commitment and contribution in the following areas: student success and customer service, leadership, quality work product or projects, committee work, and service to CSN.

Distinguished Full-time Faculty of the Year Award

This award recognizes a full-time CSN faculty member who has demonstrated distinguished achievements in the areas of teaching, counseling and/or library services, professional development and growth, and service to CSN.

Distinguished Part-time Faculty of the Year Award

This award recognizes a CSN part-time faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in student success, teaching practices, professional development and growth, and service to CSN.
